Astrophysics-Based STEM Mentorship

Ad Astra
Scholars
Ad Astra means "to the stars" — a phrase representing curiosity, exploration, and the pursuit of greater understanding. Ad Astra Scholars brings the mindset of scientific discovery into STEM education through personalized mentorship in physics, mathematics, and scientific programming.
Founded by Alexander Lohr, Astrophysics PhD Candidate.
About Ad Astra Scholars
From Exploring the Universe
to Inspiring Future Scientists
Ad Astra Scholars was founded by Alexander Lohr, an Astrophysics PhD candidate studying some of the universe's most fascinating questions.
Beyond conducting research, Alex is passionate about helping students discover the intuition, curiosity, and confidence needed to succeed in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Through personalized mentorship, students learn not only how to solve challenging problems, but how to think like the scientists and engineers who created the solutions.

Current Research
Understanding galactic quenching through computational astrophysics and galaxy evolution.
Educational Philosophy
Building intuition and problem-solving ability by helping students understand why concepts work, not simply how to memorize formulas.
Teaching Philosophy
Understanding
Over Memorization
The strongest STEM students are not the ones who memorize the most formulas. They are the ones who understand why those formulas exist, how ideas connect, and how to approach unfamiliar problems.
Why Equations Work
Students learn the meaning behind the mathematics, transforming formulas from symbols into powerful tools.
How Concepts Connect
Physics and mathematics become a connected framework rather than isolated topics to memorize.
How Scientists Think
Students develop problem-solving strategies used by researchers, engineers, and scientists.
